Don’t Fall for It

Whenever you see a story suddenly show up everywhere, such as the latest “AI is going to kill us all! Government must regulate it!”, it’s almost always a coordinated campaign to whip up public support to take away our rights or rig the so-called capitalist system for a large campaign contributor. The last thing we should be asking for is for government to regulate it. Has anything government done in the name of safety in our lifetimes been done in an efficient way and preserved our rights? Do you think it’s more likely to be used for the benefit of the American people, or to put in controls that preserve and enhance their power? 🤔 How did that “temporary” Patriot Act thing work out? How about with free speech when government worked with social media to stop Covid “misinformation”?

Ann Coulter’s article at Patriot Post earlier today (9/17) goes along with your comment on regulating new upcoming AI businesses. She gives several examples of similar situations with different businesses in the past. Prevent competition.
I don’t like AI because it strips away humanity as computers have done, in a broad sense. Can AI be useful? Of course, with a caveat. It must never be allowed control or influence, even partially, over critical systems. IMO, that’s a recipe for disaster. As a research tool, I’m fine with it. Beyond that, hell no. Think of how benign social media was purported to be vs. how it turned out. Not good. In short, if you strip away humanity, you ultimately doom humanity.
If corporations or even individuals for that matter were once again HELD RESPONSIBLE for their CRIMES, people would probably feel a bit safer regarding AI or anything else corporations are up to. Not endorsing government involvement in any way…just saying. Know how much 8s now interconnected and linked to the internet, it’s not hard to imagine an AI bot or whatever being able to create mass destruction…kind of like government.
Red Flag laws required owners of automobiles to have someone walk 50′ in front of them with red flags to ward of the oncoming vehicle. Eventually people realized there was more benefit to the automobile than downside and even politicians had to stop the fearmongering and rescind those stupid laws.
But the automobile put many teamsters off of horse wagons. many horse harness makers went out of business. Many farmers no longer grew hay or straw for profit and now produced food for people.
And yet, we have 2.7% unemployment.
the automobile kills 40,000 Americans annually. People drive drunk. People use the vehicle for theft, getaways, and murder.
And yet, we drive millions of miles without adverse incidents.
AI can’t do anything on its own. It cannot think. It has no morals. It can’t dig a ditch or create a machine or blow glass. But I am to be concerned it will take over the world, put everyone out of work and kill the human race.
