Random Thoughts of the Day

In modern society, most of us don’t have to engage in much physical activity. We don’t have to spend our days hunting, farming, collecting berries, or building shelter. We can stay in our comfortable chairs and beds all day. We don’t even have to go shopping, as almost everything is available by delivery. Despite the option of a sedentary lifestyle, does it mean it’s good for us? We all know physical exercise is still important. Without it, our muscles atrophy, we develop back pain, our hearts deteriorate, and we suffer a host of other problems. So, most of us engage in some kind of activity like walking, weightlifting, biking, sports, etc.

The same concept applies to our brains. With Google, the Internet, smart phones, and now artificial intelligence, we can find the answer to almost anything in seconds. We can increasingly find solutions without doing any thinking or learning. As with physical exercise, does that mean we should stop working our brains? The same kind of atrophy and deterioration occurs. We as a society tend to blame it on aging, but is that really the cause? Compare passive retirees to aging individuals who keep working or engaging their minds with classes and activities. Passive retirees tend to lose the ability to learn new things and experience memory issues, deteriorating fast until they can no longer care for themselves.

The lesson is, as with physical exercise, keep learning! Learn new subjects, play games, do puzzles, test your recall, and most of all, challenge your brains!

  1. Physical activity is a must. But we have have a huge problem with kids and too many adults who have zero “Critical Thinking Skills”. Take a pill feel better, Push a button, get the answer. So many are clueless about being able to tell the difference of opinion, fact, lies, experts or truth. Country is in trouble…
