Giving Season

My wife and I give plenty of money to charity, but it’s definitely frustrating to find out how sometimes the majority of money donated goes for salaries & overhead rather than the intended recipients. I mostly try to give anonymously since I hate getting on mailing/robocall lists. Unfortunately, my wife has got her name and address on file with certain charities. For some, I don’t even have to look up online how much is wasted. I can just go by the unending weekly mailers asking for more donations. I get it, you need money to function, but if you’re sending us 5+ thick envelopes a month asking for donations, you’ve pretty much guaranteed I will never donate to you again.
And of course, don’t get me started on the most inefficient, corrupt “charity” of all: the one that steals half our paychecks and takes a cut whenever we spend, invest, drive, own property, drink, fish, adopt a pet, exist, die…….of course, they don’t have to waste money asking for donations. They just need to hire millions of enforcers to make sure you “give” them their donations.

Used to donate to several charities in the distant past. Then I starting doing some research and saw how much was used for overhead, for promotions, for asking for even more donations, sometimes just sheer wasted, and then what was left over and actually used for, you know, the whole purpose of the charity. Then I stopped. 100%. No more. I give to the Church I go to and that’s it. Used to give some to the boy scouts and girl scouts, but no more after the recent changes.
Seems I read somewhere that charities only have to pay 5% to the actual cause, but I’m not sure that’s accurate. Even so, I know there’s a ton of waste in there.
Sounds like a solid plan!…

I don’t know if the “Nonprofit Explorer” will show as a live link when I hit reply. I glanced at an “Animal” outfit in Washington, DC. The boss-person’s annual “Compensation”: $641,000, plus some $35,000 in ‘perks’. Nice work if you can get it.
