Most republicans would be seriously upset at the prospect of people being allowed to live their own lives as they see fit without meddling by the government too. The only real difference is which aspects of life they wish to see controlled. That is why libertarianism has always appealed to me – let EVERYONE live every aspect of their lives as they see fit so long as they are not violating the rights, property, etc. of anyone else.
