Don’t get me wrong, I think everyone in a household should work and contribute, but why are we as a society so fixated on getting our own place? Why do we build and buy houses several times in size of what we really need, usually filled with nothing or useless purchases that no longer give us any pleasure? It’s unfortunate that nowadays there’s a stigma to living adult years with extended family or even a group of friends. You’re considered some kind of failure if you don’t get out on your own. I personally enjoy having a small house with just my wife and five pets, but we need to stop looking down on people who think otherwise, especially with the insane cost of housing, food, and utilities nowadays.

If your live with extended family and it works for everyone in the household, why change? If you like sharing a house with four friends, go for it! It’s doesn’t even have to be a temporary or transitional situation. The world would be a better place if all of us do what makes us happy rather than live in stereotypical lives that supposedly means we’re successful.
