Random Thoughts of the Day

A lot of recent attention has deservedly been given to DEI and other gender/minority preferential treatment putting in place unqualified individuals. But we’ve lost sight of two other big disadvantages of such practices.
First of all, they undermine the qualified individuals in such positions. In other words, the women and minorities who have worked their asses off, who have earned their achievements every step of the way, are often stereotyped to be DEI or affirmation action recipients. Thus, their credibility and qualifications are questioned, and they must work extra hard to earn respect.
Second of all, they’re insulting to what these groups can achieve. It’s called the bigotry of low expectations. It says, you’re not good enough to reach the top without our artificial boost. It sets lower ceilings of achievement, rather than push them to be all they can be. Great leaders know that people will live up, or down, to the reputation and expectations you set for them. Top athletic coaches and military drill sargents know this better than anyone, which is why you don’t find any DEI bullshit in their training and goals. Life is not fair, and never will be. Historically great individuals almost always have had to overcome some major life obstacles that made them stronger.
DEI-type programs say, “Oh, poor you, you’re so disadvantaged. Society is against you, so here’s your booster seat. You do your best, even if you can’t meet expectations of those privileged ones.” Meritocracy systems say, “Suck it up, work your ass off, and reach levels of achievement you never dreamed possible!”

I like your editorial comments and would like to share them but how do I do that easy without a blank link to your site? I don’t mind sharing your site but would like to share just the editorial and let the other person explore as they see fit? Love what you do and appreciate it. Read every day.
