One thing always annoys me about the people calling for fact-checking, censorship, and stopping “misinformation.” That is these smug, condescending asses always act like there is ZERO false information on the Left. No fake stories are ever repeated. No false social media posts are ever shared. All of the inaccurate information is exclusively on the Right.

Everyone, yes everyone, knows you can never totally trust anything shared on the web. Even the most thorough and well-informed people can occasionally share inaccurate information. However, anytime you post something negative about the saintly Democrats, insufferable liberals start screaming “misinformation,” usually with some snide remark about the intelligence of the sharer. It doesn’t matter how obvious or easily confirmed the information is. If they ask for a source, and you give them five, in my expererience, they usually won’t look at a single one. They’ll just deny the credibility of the sources, even if a source shows original videos in full concerning the story in question. And if the information is completely unimpeachable, they’ll just fall back on the “yeah, but…” logic.

By this I mean, they excuse dumb and corrupt behavior by pointing to an example of misbehavior from someone on the Right. First of all, it shouldn’t matter which side is doing the bad things. We should condemn corrupt, egregious bahavior regardless of the source. It’s the main reason Americans are stuck with two despicable, incompetent political parties. Second of all, the “yeah, but” counter arguments are often themselves based on easily-debunked false information. And if you try to post a correction, you’re back to the drawing board of people who can’t be reasoned with, which is why it’s a waste of time to engage with the too-far-gone leftists. You can be watching in real time Democrats engage in awful behavior, yet you’ll still get the usual suspects denying reality. The Biden pardons should cement any lingering doubts, if you had any.

Getting back to fact-checking and censorship, I have never once, not one single time, heard of a left-leaning post being fact-checked. I’ve never once heard an instance of a Democrat or other government-loving socialist having their account banned. Elon Musk’s “community notes” on X are being used to counter false information, but they’re not under the control of organized Thought Police brigades.

Regardless, there will always be false information on both the Right and Left. The fact the censors of the past 5 years have put all their effort into only one side just proves that NO ONE can be trusted to be arbiters of accurate information. If free speech prevails, eventually we all learn which sources can be trusted or not. And if we’re forced to throw up our hands and scream, “I don’t know what to believe,” maybe we’ll just have to fall back on good old logic, reason, and common sense.
